Killing It: BN1’s Best Moments of 2017
By Milly Hailstone
First of all, I’d like to thank all of my wonderful customers and readers for all the support I’ve had this year. Juggling Straight Talk BN1 alongside a full-time job isn’t an easy business and I need to constant motivation to keep hustling. But, from each blog reader to every sale, I’m truly grateful to be sharing this journey with you.
Enough of that soppy stuff, instead let’s celebrate every milestone we made during 2017! Here are my top 4 achievements from the past year.
We Had Our First Magazine Feature
This was a proud moment for me. Back in March, BN1 was shipped off to California for a shoot in ASOS Magazine, where we were stocked at the time. No matter where you post your work online, the feel of a magazine is so much more special. It’s permanent, you can touch it, and keep it forever.
We Moved to a Different Country
Thinking back, this was a pretty crazy year. Me and Zil packed up our whole lives and moved to a new city. Yep, we left Brighton, U.K (the birthplace of BN1), for a new life in Vilnius, Lithuania. This was a pretty crazy move to make, as I’d already established a strong customer base in the U.K and had to do it all over again in a country where I can’t speak the language. But now, I’m serving customers all over Europe, and even some in the U.S, too.
Thanks to the move, we’ve now got a larger studio and a cheaper (but equally reliable) postage service as Royal Mail, haha. I’d really encourage everyone to shake up their life by living somewhere new. The experiences you’ll have and people you’ll meet will really broaden your horizons. It’s been 8 months so far, and I’m loving every second…
I Got to Make Some Amazing Custom Clothing
I got to make some beautiful and original pieces of clothing this year. I love hearing all of your ideas, and watching them come to life! There’s nothing as cool as making custom clothing for awesome and unique individuals. Sitting at my sewing machines is total peace for me, there’s nothing like hours just spent creating.
My favourites of the year, have been a pair of slick tan dungarees, a blacker than black denim jacket and patched up denim apron for fellow printmaker, The Fabulous Losers.
I Started Blogging… Again
When I’m not hustling for BN1, I work as a writer. Despite not being able to spend as much time as I’d like to on my brand, I’ve turned my job-for-money into a new skill that I can use to grow BN1. Ever the entrepreneur, huh?
Since then, I’ve started writing about topics that are close to my heart and posting them on the BN1 blog. So far, I’ve written about my experience as a bald woman, why I hate Black Friday and why I started BN1 in the first place.
I’ve got huge plans for 2018, and you might’ve already noticed that the BN1 blog is already a part of that. I want this blog to be a voice, a place for activism and interesting articles. If you’re interested in writing a guest post, please contact me, here.
Let’s make 2018 a year to remember!
